Cocoo Sake Kokushi Musō Junmai | Saké Review

On a sip, I saw tranquility and floatiness reminiscent of Hokkaido's powder snow.

日本語版: 人生の儚さを感じる「国士無双 純米酒 虚空 Cocoo Saké」

Life is ephemeral, so is this sake

The letters “虚空 (kokū)” attracted me tremendously when I saw them at a souvenir shop at the airport. Kokū (spelled with originality in the label as “Cocoo”) means empty space, sky, or void. I am attached to ephemeralness and emptiness.

On a sip, I saw tranquility and floatiness reminiscent of Hokkaido’s powder snow and an elegant scent of rice. It was very close to my imagination from the name of this sake. The texture is also light and silky. Rather intense lactic acid and delicate sweetness of powder sugar harmonize aromas of grapefruit, cooked rice, shiratama-ko fine fice flour, and grass. Citrusy scents linger for a short time with a subtle sweetness. This brew is easy to drink when chilled, but there were slight cloying rice and lactic notes at room temperature.

Food Pairings

This light brew pairs well with a wide variety of food. In other words, it never disturbs any dish. Amongst, the light flavor with grassy notes makes this sake marry with strawberry.
